5 Popular Tooth Fairy Movies
19 November 2021
From dragons to gremlins, trolls to unicorns, magical beasts come in all shapes and sizes. But it’s fair to say that the Tooth Fairy is one of the most popular characters to appear in folklore tales, storybooks, songs, magical plays and even movies. So let’s take a look at five popular tooth fairy films to pop on your must-watch list.
#1 Tooth Fairy
Rated PG and first released in 2010, Tooth Fairy tells the story of a hockey player called Derek (Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson) who breaks a little girl’s heart when he tells her that there is no Tooth Fairy. As punishment, he’s summoned by the fairy world to serve two weeks hard labour as a real-life Tooth Fairy complete with the tutu, wings and magic wand. At first, Derek ‘can’t handle the tooth,’ bumbling and stumbling his way through his duties. But as he adapts to the role, he begins to discover his own forgotten dreams.
#2 Tooth Fairy 2
Larry Guthrie (Larry the Cable Guy) tries to win back an old flame by volunteering at a local children’s club. His plan backfires, however, when he tells the kids that there is no Tooth Fairy. In a similar plot to the original movie starring The Rock, Larry is soon transformed into a tutu-clad fairy with a sentence of collecting teeth. Will he ever impress his crush dressed in a pink fairy costume with wings? This movie has a U rating and is suitable for young kids.
#3 Hellboy II: The Golden Army
If you’re under 12, this movie isn’t for you. It’s aimed at teens as the director, Guillermo del Toro, is well-known for creating creatures that are beyond extraordinary and beautifully terrifying. This is the case in Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which features nasty little tooth fairies that are nothing like the tutu, wand-waving fairies you’ve come to know and love. These creepy little critters only have a short amount of screentime, but their grotesque appearance leaves a lasting impression.
#4 Rise of the Guardians
Rise of the Guardians is a family-friendly, fantasy adventure starring a Tooth Fairy by the name of Toothiana. Sweet, bubbly, daring, graceful, charismatic and motherly, Toothiana is part-human and part-hummingbird with fair skin, feathered hair, and pink eyes. She also has gold feathers on the side of her face which look like earrings. Toothiana is the Guardian of Memories and it’s her job to collect children’s baby teeth and guard over them in her castle in Southeast Asia. She leaves behind money for every tooth she takes.
Toothless was first released in 1997 which seems like a long time ago now, but it’s still one of the best Tooth Fairy movies around. Starring Kirsty Alley, Toothless is the heart-warming tale about a dentist who is killed in an accident but is not allowed into heaven until she can show some human compassion. So, she’s assigned to become the Tooth Fairy. And that’s when she comes across a small boy in desperate need of a loving family.
